Joe enters the town where locals warn him to leave. He  befriends the saloon keeper who confirms the dangers. But Joe spots an opportunity for making mischief and money among the two ruling families, the Baxters and the Rojos.  He kills four of  the Baxters' men and joins the Rojo clan.

While with the Rojos, he finds Marisol is living with the besotted Ramon.  

He sets up a gunfight between the two families which results in the Rojos taking a Baxter hostage. But he sees to it that the Baxters have a Rojo hostage - Marisol.

The Rojos race back home through the cacti with their prisoner, Antonio Baxter.  

Following humiliating scenes for Marisol at the prisoner exchange, Joe discovers that she is herself held prisoner by Ramon Rojo.

He decides to intervene.

Joe creeps out during the night and takes the back road to the small house where Marisol is being kept.

Joe enters the house and dispatches the Rojos' men who are gathered for a meal in front of the fireplace.

He has started to trash the building when Marisol appears through a rear door in time to warn him of danger from a surviving Rojo.
