Casa de Campo, Madrid

SCENE

The Rojos' house. All that remain to be seen are the doors in the wall of the stone 'building' where Joe was tortured and imprisoned. They are now internal to a restaurant / function suite, La Pesquera. The rest of the complex has been completely reconstructed  while incorporating the old central door as the main entrance and the side doors which give access to the toilets. It seems that this was never a functional building but merely a decorative outer wall to the premises. The whole area, lying on the southern perimeter of extensive parklands known as Casa de Campo, is dominated by similar function rooms / restaurants, some of which exhibit stone structures in the same style and some of which are constructed in materials reminiscent of the old Rojo house.

Aldea del Fresno

SCENE

Rio Bravo Canyon. Apart from the road bridge, the scene is barely recognisable. The river has narrowed, changed course somewhat and a public park runs alongside. 

Hoyo de Manzanares

SCENE

San Miguel (Also Tucumcari, For a Few Dollars More)
The last remnants of the set (save two water troughs, left) have been cleared during 2011. There is little to see except the distinctive mountain backdrop to the town. Interestingly, in the other direction, the hilltop Castillo Franco (top right), one time hangout of the late dictator, can be spotted (it was in the film too!). The cemetery location (bottom right) lies a couple of hundred metres away. It is rather overgrown and beyond us, on a lightning visit, to pick out the exact spot.
